It is chaos tonight. Lots of cases all over the city. Day shift have been called in to assist; we and swing are already stretched to full capacity. The labs are struggling to process the evidence quickly enough. There are people everywhere, we barely have a minute to stop and talk.
But every so often I pass him in a corridor and our eyes meet. And for that second all is calm. He smiles and I know he shares my thoughts of our dinner yesterday evening before shift. I smile back and he knows I’m looking forward to dinner tonight.
